Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
